The story begins on that very day.

His name was Gu Yi, and he had just been kicked out by his adoptive parents.

The reason? He had committed an unforgivable sin—he allegedly hurt a female classmate, caused her to become pregnant, and she had died by suicide.

The girl’s name was Bai Nuo—brilliant, beautiful. After her death, her grieving family made a scene at the Gu household multiple times, screaming for Gu Yi to repay them with his life.

Unable to take the pressure, the Gu family ultimately severed their adoption and kicked him out.

When Gu Yi left, he took nothing. Empty-handed, he wandered the streets in misery.

The only thing he had left was the clothes on his back and a jade pendant around his neck.

He had had this pendant since childhood. It didn’t look special—plain, square-shaped, no distinct pattern or age. No one knew where it came from. All Gu Yi knew was that he’d worn it since he could remember. It had followed him through many homes—until now, when he was once again abandoned.

Since his early days in the orphanage, Gu Yi had been taken in and discarded by countless families.

He was quiet and introverted, not like the other kids who fought to win over adoptive parents. Plus, the dark, large birthmark over his left eye made him look strange—ugly, even—causing many families to reject him on sight.

Still, Gu Yi was lucky in some ways. He was hardworking and sensible. At age five, he finally met a family willing to adopt him.

But his luck didn’t last. The warmth didn’t stick around for long. That family, like all the others, eventually found an excuse to return him.

It became a curse he couldn’t shake: no matter how many homes he entered, the ending was always the same—he was abandoned.

The Gu family had kept him the longest. But when they let him go, they did it the most ruthlessly.

Gu Yi never imagined Bai Nuo would die. Nor did he think everyone would blame him for her death.

Since starting school, Gu Yi had always been the one bullied the most—because of his face, his quietness. Arrogant boys in class treated him as their favorite target.

For example, they’d make him buy snacks, then say he got the wrong ones and demand replacements.

Or they’d stick chewed gum to his seat, laughing uproariously when he sat down without realizing.

Or they’d snatch his pendant and play “keep away,” forcing him to run back and forth, begging them to give it back—only to laugh harder.

When they got bored, they’d toss it into the toilet... and pee on it.

Stuff like this happened daily. Gu Yi was used to it.

Even when he retrieved his pendant from the toilet, his heart felt nothing.

He knew he couldn’t fight them. No girl would be friends with him.

This world was just like that.

These kinds of days followed him into high school—and probably would for the rest of his life.

Especially since the ringleader of his bullies was the rich, untouchable son of a wealthy family.

Even when he tried to report it to teachers, they’d just say, “You need to learn to get along with your classmates, not just study all the time.”

Gu Yi thought bitterly, If I knew how to get along with him, I wouldn’t be bullied for so many years.

But in high school, there was one person who didn’t bully him—in fact, she was kind to him. The only friend he ever had in his life.

That person was Bai Nuo.

A model student. Teacher’s favorite assistant. The class monitor. Beautiful, poised, adored by every boy.

Yet she became best friends with the “freak” Gu Yi, which only made the boys resent him more.

Bai Nuo came from a single-parent family. Though she appeared confident and independent, inside she was lonely—and that loneliness resonated with Gu Yi. They became inseparable.

It was the first time in Gu Yi’s life he understood the joy of friendship. He was truly happy.

Bai Nuo would talk to him about her dreams. She loved dancing, performing. She said she had a beautiful red dress, and when she graduated, she wanted to wear it and perform one last dance on stage to say goodbye.

She smiled and said, “Gu Yi, you must come watch me, okay?”

Gu Yi nodded.

He was looking forward to that day.

But the first time he saw Bai Nuo wearing that red dress…
She was standing on the rooftop of the school building, arms spread wide.

Everyone at school saw it.

Screams erupted from every direction.

Bai Nuo’s face was calm. Her delicate figure stood still in the wind, her long hair and the hem of her dress fluttering in the breeze. Then, she looked down at the dense crowd gathered below.

Gu Yi stood among them, stunned.
The next second, he saw Bai Nuo smile at him.

It was a beautiful smile, but to Gu Yi, it felt eerily off—indescribably strange.

“Ahhh—!”

Even louder screams pierced Gu Yi’s ears.

Wearing her red dress, Bai Nuo leapt from the school building like a butterfly taking flight—light and graceful.

Blood splattered everywhere.

Even her brain matter burst out on impact.

All the sounds around Gu Yi turned distant and hazy.

All he could remember was that smile she gave him—the last image seared into his mind.

After that, he felt… nothing.

When Bai Nuo died, her family was devastated. The autopsy report brought them an even crueler blow.

Bai Nuo was pregnant.

It was barely over a month, just a tiny lump of flesh, but enough to confirm the cause behind her desperate suicide.

The school exploded with gossip.

The star student. The class goddess. Pregnant. Suicide.

No one could believe it.

So, who did this to her? Who drove her to such despair?

There was only one answer.

Gu Yi.

“Oh my god, I thought he was just ugly—I didn’t know he was this disgusting!”

“I told Bai Nuo not to hang around people like that. He’s always been shady. The kind to go postal one day.”

“Can you blame him? Having a beauty like Bai Nuo so close every day? Like hell he could hold back. What a waste… did you see her parents? They fainted from crying.”

“I heard Gu Yi was adopted anyway. After something like this, no one would ever want him again. I just hope he gets what he deserves—someone like that should disappear from our lives! I refuse to graduate with a rapist!”

“Go to hell, rapist! You monster! You're going to rot in hell!”

These were the curses Gu Yi heard the first day he returned to school after being kicked out by his adoptive family.

Whispers in every corner.
Every time he left or entered the classroom, eyes followed—filled with fear, anger, and hate.

Gu Yi acted like he didn’t see.

He went to his seat, laid his head down, and tried to sleep.

But every time he closed his eyes, Bai Nuo’s smile appeared in his mind.

“Gu Yi, come to the office for a moment.”

Suddenly, a voice came from the doorway.

It was their homeroom teacher, Mr. Li Dong—the same teacher who had once told him to "get along better with your classmates."

Gu Yi opened his eyes and sat up.

In the office, it was just Mr. Li and him.

The teacher sighed, looked up, and said, “Your family called. After today, you don’t need to come back.”

“You think I did it too?” Gu Yi asked.

Mr. Li didn’t answer directly. “That’s what your family said. They won’t be paying your tuition anymore.”

“But we’re so close to graduation… can I just finish the semester—?”

“Don’t you understand plain language? I said don’t come back tomorrow!”

Mr. Li cut him off, voice sharp with irritation. “As long as you’re here, this school will never be at peace! The sooner you leave, the less you’ll drag down our class.”

“…Got it.”

Gu Yi left the office, head down—only to bump into someone.

It was Lin Ming—the rich boy who had bullied him for years. His nightmare.

But Gu Yi felt nothing.

He pretended not to see Lin Ming, shifted slightly, and walked past.

Surprisingly, Lin Ming didn’t stop him.
In the past, he would’ve thrown a punch immediately.

That night during evening study, Gu Yi was the last to leave the classroom.

Some students were day scholars, others lived on campus—either way, the building emptied quickly like the tide going out.

Gu Yi walked alone to the top floor of the school building.

The wind was strong that night, like it was trying to pull him away.

He stood in the exact spot where Bai Nuo once stood—remembered her smile, her dreams, and the image of her lying on the ground in that red dress.

He thought about his adoptive parents.
His classmates’ hatred.
His teacher’s coldness and irritation.

He had no home.
No friends.
No one wanted him in this world.

Because he was a freak.
No one wanted him alive.

And maybe… that was fine.

He was tired.

If he left, maybe he’d see Bai Nuo again.

Gu Yi stepped forward, closed his eyes, and let himself fall.

It was over.

…But it wasn’t.

As he plummeted, wind howling in his ears, something strange happened.

His jade pendant—silent all these years—suddenly lit up. A soft, radiant glow. Crystal-clear and beautiful.

Someone grabbed him around the waist.

In midair, his body flipped, and Gu Yi froze.

What’s going on?

Am I dreaming?

The next second, he was in someone’s arms.

With a blink, they soared back up to the rooftop.

When his feet touched the ground, Gu Yi was still dazed, completely bewildered.

Before he could make sense of anything—
A hand clamped tightly around his neck and lifted him off the ground.

The agony of suffocation instantly engulfed his entire body. Gu Yi clutched at the man’s wrist with both hands, when suddenly, a man's voice rang out in the darkness:

"You little brat, you really want to die that badly?"
