AD Chapter 18
In the past two days, Su Ning has been feeling a little sluggish, lacking the usual energy for anything. It’s not that he’s afraid of the hard work in the film crew—he’s been an assistant to entertainers before, and he can handle that kind of hardship.
The real problem is being an assistant to Chu Zichen—who is currently Gu Lingfeng's lover—while Su Ning is Gu Lingfeng’s assistant and also his bed companion. This relationship dynamic clearly doesn’t seem like one that can stay peaceful.
Gu Lingfeng may not have noticed Su Ning’s change in behavior, or if he did, he probably didn’t care. Either way, there was no indication of any concern from him.
The two days passed quickly, and Su Ning was set to report to Chu Zichen before heading to the filming location with him. Su Ning hadn’t gone to the company with Gu Lingfeng today; instead, he stayed home packing his luggage, and his expression clearly didn’t look happy.
Su Ning deliberately took his time packing, as if dragging it out would somehow prevent him from having to go. But of course, he couldn’t avoid it. Regardless of his feelings, going to be Chu Zichen's assistant was something Gu Lingfeng had approved, so he had to comply.
No matter how slow his movements, the luggage was eventually packed, and with a long sigh, Su Ning dragged his suitcase out the door, looking as though he were going to a funeral.
Just as he stepped outside, he ran into Gu Lingfeng, who had just returned. Gu Lingfeng froze for a moment when he saw Su Ning dragging his suitcase, and his brow furrowed slightly.
"Where are you going?"
His tone seemed somewhat displeased, with a hint of questioning.
Su Ning was momentarily stunned. Didn’t this person already agree to let him assist Chu Zichen? Why did he now seem to be questioning him? Although he was internally complaining, he kept a respectful expression and replied seriously:
"Boss Gu, I'm going to assist Mr. Chu and join the crew. You personally agreed to this a couple of days ago."
Gu Lingfeng seemed momentarily taken aback, then frowned as if he had forgotten about it. Su Ning’s reminder brought it back to his mind.
His frown didn’t relax, and he glanced at Su Ning’s suitcase. "You’re going to the crew today?"
Su Ning stood at attention, obediently answering, "Not exactly, the formal entry is tomorrow. But Mr. Chu said he needs to go a day early to prepare, so I’m going with him."
Gu Lingfeng glanced at the suitcase again, then stepped into the house, casually saying, "Then leave tomorrow."
His tone was indifferent but left no room for discussion.
Su Ning stood at the door for a moment, shrugged, and sighed.
Well, he was the boss, so whatever he says goes.
It seemed that Gu Lingfeng was expecting something from Su Ning before he left, and Su Ning, though a little tired, couldn’t help but feel a slight sense of schadenfreude.
With the lover leaving and himself being the bed companion, it seemed like he should enjoy himself now, because after this, he would have to endure until the next time.
Su Ning knew that although Gu Lingfeng liked to keep lovers, he didn’t indulge in casual flings. He preferred to endure until he found someone suitable. In a way, he could even be considered "faithful."
Just as Su Ning was lost in thought, his lips were suddenly bitten. He winced in pain and looked up, meeting Gu Lingfeng’s dissatisfied gaze.
Su Ning couldn’t focus on anything else after that.
The next morning, half asleep and half awake, Su Ning got into the car that Gu Lingfeng had arranged for him. Last night, Gu Lingfeng had been rather intense, and it was only near dawn that he allowed Su Ning to sleep. Su Ning barely slept a few hours before heading out to the crew. He couldn’t drive himself, so Gu Lingfeng had called a driver to take him.
Su Ning slept through most of the journey, and when they arrived at the hotel designated by the crew, he finally woke up. He dragged his luggage to find Chu Zichen. However, it was not Chu Zichen who greeted him, but Du Xiaoling, the slightly plump assistant from the crew who he had met before.
When Du Xiaoling saw Su Ning, she frowned, looking at him as if he owed her money. "Why are you only here now? The entire crew has been waiting for you. Do you think you're someone important? Our Zichen is a big star, but even he doesn't make a scene like this. You’re just an assistant who got in because of him. You need to know your place, okay?"
Before Su Ning could respond, she rambled on, interrupting him multiple times. Eventually, Su Ning decided to stay silent and let her rant.
Du Xiaoling, with a look of disdain, led him into the hotel, handed him a room key, and told him to quickly get ready and meet Chu Zichen on set.
"Do you really think you’re some big shot? Ridiculous, nowadays anyone can be an assistant without doing any work," she grumbled, then walked off, leaving Su Ning standing there holding the room key, feeling helpless and worried.
Though he hadn’t officially joined the crew yet, he could already foresee the chaotic and troublesome days ahead.
He swiped the card to enter the room. It had two single beds, and some filming equipment was placed inside, indicating that his roommate was likely the crew’s photographer.
Su Ning didn’t want to waste any time. After dropping off his things, he headed to the set, which was only a short taxi ride away.
When he arrived at the set, things were chaotic, with preparations underway before the official filming began. He found Chu Zichen sitting on a special chair, angrily scolding a young crew member for giving him the wrong type of coffee, which he claimed was a deliberate act to disrespect him.
The entire set was busy, and no one dared to intervene. The crew members were too busy, and the other actors, with smaller roles than Chu Zichen, didn’t have the courage to speak up.
Su Ning sighed inwardly, resigned, as he walked over.
