Su Ning placed the documents he brought on Gu Lingfeng’s desk, and took the opportunity to tidy up the somewhat messy table.

He had intended to drop off the documents and leave, but with Su Weiwei present, it was obviously not going to be that easy. Based on past experiences, unless she vented all the grievances she suffered from Gu Lingfeng onto him, she probably wouldn't let him go.

Fortunately, even though Su Ning was currently Su Weiwei’s punching bag, he didn’t bear the full brunt of her fury. At least half of it was directed toward Gu Lingfeng’s lover—even though that person wasn’t present.

“Just a little actor,” Su Weiwei sneered. “Doesn’t even know their place. Quite the skill at seducing men. Hmph. So what if he managed to climb into Lingfeng’s bed? In Lingfeng’s eyes, he’s nothing but a plaything, a little toy. Once he gets bored, he’ll toss him aside. Who’d actually take a toy seriously?”

She deliberately said those degrading things about Chu Zichen, but her words also indirectly targeted Su Ning. Su Ning let the words go in one ear and out the other—he’d heard countless variations of such insults and felt nothing now.

The more Su Weiwei belittled those who had been in Gu Lingfeng’s bed—including Su Ning, though he wasn't technically a lover—the more it revealed how much she cared. She was Gu Lingfeng’s fiancée, yet despite being engaged for so long, Gu Lingfeng hadn’t touched her even once.

If Gu Lingfeng had simply refused to touch her, she might still have been able to deceive herself into believing he respected her, that he didn’t want to go further before marriage. But the truth was that Gu Lingfeng kept switching lovers—he’d sleep with an actor, even his own assistant—yet never touched his own fiancée.

That fact gnawed at Su Weiwei more than anything, filling her with resentment.

As Su Ning silently organized the papers on the desk, he listened to Su Weiwei’s barbed words with a calm expression, as though he hadn’t noticed the mockery aimed at him.

“Some people just don’t know their place. Think clinging to a rich man will make them a phoenix on a branch—have they looked in the mirror lately? A pathetic sight. Aside from a decent face, what do they have? Maybe just their body.” Su Weiwei let out a contemptuous chuckle, glancing lazily at Su Ning.

“I only let you stay by Lingfeng’s side because you could take care of him. Who knew you’d be so useless? Slept with him for so long and still lost to some random actor out of nowhere.”

Su Ning’s hand paused ever so slightly, fingers tightening around the folder. He looked up at Su Weiwei and said, “Is Miss Su planning to wait here for President Gu? Since I’ve delivered the documents, I’ll take my leave. Please make yourself comfortable.”

He smiled politely, as if he hadn’t heard a single unpleasant word. Su Weiwei, who had always considered Gu Lingfeng’s assistant weak and easy to bully, snorted coldly.

“I’m not as useless as you. What belongs to me, no one can take.”

Su Ning still wore a faint smile, but in his heart, he laughed bitterly.

Gu Lingfeng didn’t belong to anyone—not to him, not to Su Weiwei, not to any of the lovers like Chu Zichen. In Gu Lingfeng’s eyes, were they even different?

In the end, they were all the same—fighting bitterly, throwing away pride and dignity. And what would they gain from it?

They were all losers.

Su Ning ignored Su Weiwei’s snide remarks and headed toward the office door. Just as he stepped out, he suddenly stopped. Two people were walking toward him—Chu Zichen clung sweetly to Gu Lingfeng’s arm, chatting coquettishly as they walked.

When they came closer, Su Ning lowered his eyes and greeted, “President Gu, Mr. Chu.”

Chu Zichen didn’t even glance at him, as if he hadn’t heard a thing. Instead, he tightened his hold on Gu Lingfeng’s arm.

Gu Lingfeng gave Su Ning a cool look and asked, “You brought the documents?”

Su Ning replied respectfully, “Yes, they’re on your desk.”

Gu Lingfeng gave a slight nod, as if about to say something else, but Chu Zichen tugged on his arm and said in a sweet voice, “Lingfeng, don’t just bury yourself in work after lunch. Let’s go for a walk downstairs to digest, okay?” As he spoke, he cast a smug glance at Su Ning.

This whole building belonged to Huayu Entertainment. Gu Lingfeng’s office was on the top floor, while other departments and artist training spaces were below.

Clearly, Chu Zichen wanted to take Gu Lingfeng downstairs to the training floor to show off.

Su Ning glanced at Chu Zichen, finding the boy’s defensiveness toward him a bit amusing. At the same time, he had to admit that despite his youth and apparent innocence, Chu Zichen had already learned how to play the game—though his tactics were still rather crude.

“Tch, some people really think they’re something. What, is Huayu your family’s business now? Even the president has to go wherever you tell him?” Su Weiwei stepped out of the office, her gaze toward Chu Zichen filled with disgust and disdain, like looking at something filthy.

Compared to Su Ning, Su Weiwei hated Gu Lingfeng’s lovers even more—maybe because she knew that while Su Ning might sleep with Gu Lingfeng, his role was primarily an assistant. But those outside were real seducers.

Chu Zichen’s face turned pale, and he immediately let go of Gu Lingfeng’s arm. He hadn’t expected Su Weiwei to be there. He shot a resentful look at Su Ning, thinking the assistant had deliberately set him up to offend her.

Su Ning felt wronged. Chu Zichen hadn’t even given him a chance to warn him—he’d jumped to flaunting mode so quickly. What was Su Ning supposed to do, interrupt and shout: “The real boss lady is here! All side pieces, scram!”?

Gu Lingfeng’s brows furrowed slightly—he hadn’t expected Su Weiwei either. He turned to Chu Zichen and said, “Go down by yourself.”

Chu Zichen wrinkled his nose in grievance but didn’t dare throw a tantrum. In front of Gu Lingfeng’s future official fiancée, he didn’t even dare to act a little spoiled.

He knew very well—he could compete with Gu Lingfeng’s other lovers, even Su Ning the assistant—but he couldn’t afford to cross Su Weiwei. If he did, he wouldn’t need Gu Lingfeng to get rid of him. Backed by Greenwood Real Estate, Su Weiwei could crush him like an ant.

Watching Chu Zichen slink away like a defeated rooster, Su Ning felt a flicker of envy—because he also wanted to leave.

Perhaps because Su Ning had paused at the door for a bit too long, Gu Lingfeng, walking ahead, suddenly stopped and looked back at him.

“What are you standing there for? Get in.”

“Yes, sir.”

Snapping back to himself, Su Ning quickly followed.

Behind him, Su Weiwei, who had also been left behind, narrowed her eyes as she watched this scene.
