MWCBTC Chapter 8: Who Are You Trying to Seduce?
Qin Shen made such a ruckus that it woke up Qiao Chen from his sleep. Rubbing his eyes, Qiao Chen sat up groggily and asked, “What’s wrong?”
What’s wrong? He still had the nerve to ask what’s wrong?
And just look at Qiao Chen right now — eyes drowsy, his bathrobe all loose and messy after a night of sleep, about to slip off his shoulder at any moment. Not to mention those fair legs — not a single strand of leg hair on a man.
Qiao Chen was pale-skinned to begin with, and under the red bedsheet, he looked like his skin was glowing. Like a damn woman.
And the worst part? He wasn’t doing anything explicit, but somehow there was this underlying sensuality about him.
Who the hell is he trying to seduce?
Qin Shen couldn’t take it anymore. He threw a pillow straight at Qiao Chen’s face and shouted, “Who told you to sleep in my bed?”
Qiao Chen was still half-asleep, voice soft and a little aggrieved. “I didn’t have anywhere else to sleep.”
Qin Shen was momentarily choked by this response, then snapped again, “So that means you can just crawl into my bed?”
“I didn’t. You were the one who hugged me.” Qiao Chen hugged the pillow that had just smacked him in the face, eyes squinting as if he was about to fall back asleep.
Seriously? Talking nonsense now?
“I hugged you? Why the hell would I hug you? Do you even know what you look like?!” Qin Shen was absolutely fuming, voice rising another octave.
Qiao Chen frowned and said, “Don’t yell.”
Then followed up with, “I was wrong.”
He admitted it so quickly and cleanly that Qin Shen didn’t even know how to respond or what insult to throw next. In the end, all he could manage was a gritted, “Good that you know!”
“Mm-hmm.” Qiao Chen obediently acknowledged, then lay back down and continued to sleep.
Qin Shen stared at the lump on the bed, with only the back of Qiao Chen’s head poking out from under the blanket. His teeth ground audibly as a fire simmered in his chest.
Humans are like this — it takes two to argue. When the other party reacts like this, half-hearted and dismissive, it somehow makes you even angrier.
But there was nothing to pick on. In the end, Qin Shen could only storm out, slamming the door behind him with a loud thud.
…
…
Half an hour later, Qiao Chen suddenly sat up straight in bed like a flipping fish.
What time is it, what time is it?! He grabbed his phone from the nightstand, a bit panicked.
8:30. Thank goodness — still time.
He had to report to the company by 10. Though they called it an interview, most of the process had already been handled online. Qiao Chen was applying for a position as a modeling artist. All he had to do was show his work and skills. After a one-week trial, if all went well, they’d sign a labor contract.
Qiao Chen got up quickly and rushed to the bathroom to brush his teeth and wash up.
Speaking of which, he had interviewed with three companies before finally choosing Deep Alley Games.
As the name suggested, it was a game development company.
Though newly listed, the company had made a name for itself in the gaming industry and developed a wide range of game types.
Most importantly, the benefits were good, and the office was close to home. Qiao Chen was, after all, a practical man who bowed to reality for the sake of a stable life.
He wrapped up his morning routine in fifteen minutes, got dressed, and headed downstairs.
The Qin family members were early risers. By the time Qiao Chen came down, the breakfast table was already full — he was the only one missing.
He immediately felt a little awkward.
But Mrs. Qin waved him over warmly. “Chenchen, come have breakfast.”
He responded and walked over to the table.
His seat was next to Qin Shen. As he passed him, Qin Shen shot him a fierce glare.
Qiao Chen was confused. What did he do this time?
Forget it. Qin Shen had always been temperamental. Qiao Chen couldn’t be bothered to figure him out.
Toward the end of the meal, Mrs. Qin asked, “You’re going to the company for an interview today, right, Chenchen?”
Qiao Chen nodded. “Yes.”
“Perfect. Let Qin Shen drop you off on his way—”
Before she could finish, Qin Shen cut in coldly, “It’s not on the way.”
Yet again, he embarrassed Qiao Chen in public. But Qiao Chen had gotten used to it by now.
He smiled lightly and said, “It’s okay. I’ll go by myself.”
The more obedient Qiao Chen was, the more Mrs. Qin thought her son was an ungrateful brat.
Left with no choice, the loving mother had to push things along herself.
She shot a glare at Qin Shen and snapped through clenched teeth, “I said it’s on the way, so it is on the way.”
That was a warning sign Mrs. Qin was about to lose her temper. Qin Shen wisely shut his mouth.
So, in the end, Qiao Chen did get into Qin Shen’s car — but as soon as he sat down, he said, “Just drop me off at the corner up ahead.”
Qin Shen hadn’t wanted to be alone with Qiao Chen in the first place. If not for Mrs. Qin’s pressure, he wouldn’t have let him in his car at all. And now this guy had the audacity to act all polite?
For some reason, Qiao Chen could always piss him off without doing much.
Maybe they were just born incompatible — no matter how he looked at him, he just rubbed him the wrong way.
Qin Shen said nothing and sped down the road like a maniac, suddenly stopping by the roadside.
The moment Qiao Chen stepped out, the car peeled away with a loud vroom.
He stood there for a moment to steady himself before pulling out his phone to call a cab.
Riding in Qin Shen’s car was always like this. Qiao Chen had a mixed record with motion sickness — sometimes yes, sometimes no. But with Qin Shen? Always yes. Maybe it was the speed, or maybe just the suffocating atmosphere.
Sometimes it really was exhausting. Jumping from one fire pit into another — when would this kind of life ever end?
Just as his negative thoughts were about to take over, the cab arrived and snapped him out of it.
Qiao Chen got in and told the driver, “Deep Alley Games, please.”
Qin Shen had left first and drove like a maniac. He should’ve gotten to the company earlier, but he spent some time doing laps around the streets to vent his frustration before finally heading over.
As a result, Qiao Chen and Qin Shen arrived at the company one after the other.
Yes — Deep Alley Games was Qin Shen’s company.
But Qiao Chen didn’t know that. Even though the company name had “Shen” in it, he never made the connection.
He was too busy with onboarding paperwork to notice Qin Shen walking through the front doors.
But Qin Shen saw him right away. He raised an eyebrow thoughtfully. This little fox — always pulling new tricks.
Marrying him wasn’t enough — now he wanted to infiltrate his company too?
Always looking for an opening to sneak in.
And yet, for some reason, the irritation in his chest eased a little.
Qin Shen didn’t call out to Qiao Chen. He headed straight to the top floor in the private elevator. The moment he entered the office, he said to his assistant, Wang Sifan, “Bring me the files of all new interns.”
Wang Sifan, being the efficient right-hand man he was, had the documents ready in five minutes.
Qin Shen flipped through the stack — sure enough, Qiao Chen’s profile was there.
He pulled it out.
Wang Sifan, who had been with Qin Shen for years, was not just a work assistant but also his confidant in life. He knew all about the situation between Qin Shen and Qiao Chen — and the identity swap involving Qiao Yu.
Seeing this, Wang Sifan asked, “Should we terminate him?”
Qin Shen tapped the file with a finger and said, “No.”
I still want to see what trick he’s planning next.
Wang Sifan asked again, “Should we suppress him quietly?”
Now that was a good idea.
Qin Shen smirked, gave a slight nod, and approved it.
