🌷Chapter 1-90

When Chu Zichen called Gu Lingfeng to act cute and found out he was away on a business trip and couldn't accompany him, he got upset and needed some coaxing. Su Ning made no comment on the matter—his job was simply to do his part well.

As for what kind of gift could soothe a sulking little lover—well, Su Ning, who had handled countless similar situations over the years, considered himself quite experienced.

With Gu Lingfeng’s card in hand, he went to a mall and bought a high-end, latest model men’s watch. After finding out Chu Zichen’s schedule, Su Ning selected the most inconspicuous car from the garage and headed for the variety show set where Chu Zichen was filming.

There were several cars at Gu Lingfeng’s villa, and he’d said Su Ning could drive whichever he liked. When driving Gu Lingfeng, Su Ning would pick a nice car. But when using one for himself, he’d always choose the most low-profile option—even though, for Su Ning, that “ordinary” car was something he couldn’t afford even with all his savings.

Last time at the club, the reason he took a taxi was because Gu Lingfeng had driven himself there. Su Ning figured he’d probably end up as the driver again—but in the end, Gu Lingfeng neither went home nor asked him to send him to Chu Zichen. Instead, he just left him at the club.

When Su Ning arrived at the show set, filming hadn’t started yet. Everyone was busy with final preparations—the scene looked a bit chaotic. People rushed around like they didn’t even have time to walk at a normal pace. No one paid Su Ning any attention.

Thinking he should ask someone for directions, Su Ning looked around for someone who didn’t seem too busy. As a fellow working person, he’d feel bad about disrupting someone’s job.

His eyes lit up when he spotted a short-haired, slightly chubby girl standing near the corridor—unlike everyone else, she didn’t seem to be doing anything.

Without thinking much, Su Ning walked over in big strides. But as he got closer, he heard her seemingly scolding someone. His steps faltered and he stopped.

“The dressing room should be reserved for Zichen! You know he prefers to be alone. How can you expect him to share a dressing room with those random people? We brought our own makeup and styling team—it’s a big group, so of course we need a larger room. Plus, the stuff Zichen uses is all expensive—makeup, clothes, accessories. What if something gets damaged or lost? Are you going to pay for it?”

She kept saying “our Zichen” in an aggressive tone, nearly driving the ponytailed girl standing beside a large potted plant to tears.

The girl kept her head down, her eyes red, and her voice trembled as she said, “We just need it for a short while… The other dressing room is really too crowded, so we—”

Before she could finish, the chubby girl raised her voice sharply and interrupted, “Why should Zichen be the one to give up the room? Just because he’s a newcomer? Are you bullying him because of that?!”

By now, Su Ning had a good guess about who she was—probably Chu Zichen’s assistant. It was quite the coincidence that the person he wanted to ask for help turned out to be that very same assistant.

While the commotion continued over there, some staff nearby whispered among themselves as they worked.

“I’ve never seen a rookie act so arrogant. If I’m not mistaken, Wei Qing debuted two years earlier than that guy. They’re under the same agency too, so technically, she’s his senior.”

“So what if she’s his senior? He’s got a powerful backer now. Haven’t you seen how even our station’s top stars are treating him like royalty?”

“Hmph, anyone can act like a diva when they sleep their way into top billing. Sure, he’s playing the bigshot now—but let’s see how long that lasts. There weren’t enough dressing rooms to begin with. They freed up two so everyone could make do, but he just had to hog the biggest one for himself. Everyone else had to squeeze into the small one. Poor Wei Qing came late and couldn’t even fit in the smaller room, so she tried asking to share, but who knew the kid would act like he’s above everyone else.”

“So that’s Wei Qing’s assistant? Figures—like idol, like assistant. I saw Wei Qing hiding in the bathroom crying earlier, probably because she got yelled at.”

Su Ning eavesdropped on the gossip and got a clear picture of what had happened.

He walked around the still-shouting assistant and headed toward the dressing rooms.

From the outside, it was impossible to tell which room was big or small, but Su Ning immediately spotted the one Chu Zichen was in—

Because there were bodyguards standing at the door.

Su Ning: “…”

He’d worked with many celebrities over the years, but bringing bodyguards into the dressing room? This was a first.

Trying to suppress a twitch at the corner of his mouth, he approached the door. Sure enough, he was stopped. But Su Ning had a universal pass.

“I’m here on behalf of President Gu to deliver something to Mr. Chu,” Su Ning said calmly.

The bodyguards, knowing full well about the relationship between Chu Zichen and Gu Lingfeng, stepped aside to let him through.

Su Ning was just about to push the door open when a loud shout rang out from inside: “You expect me to wear this?! Are you treating me like a beggar?!”

When the door opened, the angry Chu Zichen looked up and frowned the moment he saw Su Ning. He’d seen this man around Gu Lingfeng a few times, but Chu Zichen had eyes only for Gu Lingfeng—he wouldn’t bother to remember an assistant.

“Hello, Mr. Chu. I’m Su Ning, President Gu’s assistant. He asked me to deliver this to you,” Su Ning said simply, taking out the watch he had bought earlier.

Naturally, there was no need to mention that Gu Lingfeng hadn’t personally picked it out.

Upon hearing that the gift was from Gu Lingfeng, and that someone had been sent to deliver it just to cheer him up, all of Chu Zichen’s anger vanished. His face lit up with joy as he immediately put on the watch, admiring it gleefully while casually asking, without even glancing at Su Ning, “Did President Gu say anything?”

In reality, he hadn’t said a word—but of course, Su Ning wouldn’t admit that.

“President Gu said he’s busy these few days, but he’ll make it up to you with another gift once he returns.”

Chu Zichen was obviously delighted but still put on an air of nonchalance, huffing, “Who wants his gift anyway? He said he’d come see me film, but now he’s gone back on his word.”

Su Ning remained silent, keeping a polite smile on his face.
